Who is Jerome?
Freelance translator, I translate from English and Italian into French.
I am French and was born in Paris.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Foreign Languages with Law and Economics with a major in translation from the Sorbonne Nouvelle university in Paris and a Master’s degree in Professional Translation from the Institute for Translators and Interpreters (ITI-RI) of Strasbourg in France. It was during the course of these studies that I lived for the first time in Italy: I studied for one year in Salerno at Università degli Studi di Salerno.
I am convinced that a full command and fluidity of a language cannot be achieved without long stays abroad, so after completion of my two Degrees, I moved back to Italy for 3 years (in Naples this time) to develop my linguistic skills and get work experience.
I can really say that it is Naples which gave me my first real experience as a professional translator. After completion of a three months internship with a translation agency, I then kept working freelance for this same agency for around one and a half years.
My love for Italy and my passion for Naples in particular made me stay there for several years; I also worked in Naples as a multilingual tour guide for more than two years in Napolisotterranea and as a French teacher in a nursery school "Asilo Svizzero".
All these experiences of full immersion in Italy gave me the opportunity to gain and understand all the nuances and subtleties of the Italian language, but also offered me a deep knowledge of the social and economic reality of Italy, its culture and the mentality of this country. A translator’s essential qualities.
Always keen to learn more and because I wanted to keep on travelling, I decided then to move towards a new adventure which brought me on to the Emerald Island: Ireland. I am now based in Dublin where I have been living since August 2008. Living in an English speaking environment is with no doubt a precious asset to vastly develop and incredibly enrich my command of English which is my first language of study.
I set up my Translation business "JeromeTranslating" in Dublin in 2011 where I work as a sole trader.
